Three Little Mews

 Sunday after meeting the mounted police Him got to meet three young little mew kitties about 5 weeks old.  Him only remembers two of their names, Possum Face and Pirate and the black one was named something equally descriptive (Smokey/Stormy?).  It seems Pirate took a liking to Him.

Ponies In the Park

 

Central Riverside Park is one of Wichita's most popular and beautiful parks located next to museums and other local attractions.  Sundays are a favorite day for families to gather and spend time with children playing in the fountains and enjoying the wide open spaces.  Today we met two of the mounted police who were out enjoying the day and fine mood after the thunderstorms of the early morning hours.

What is it?

Last Weekend we picked up this little find for the history case at Lawrence Photo.  Him did not care (within reason how much it cost) and said, "It's MINE."

Randall Knives

Our good friend and camping buddy stopped by yesterday to show his newest acquisition of a Randall Knife.  When asked if this was his special order blade we heard that was not expected until 2014.  That said these are some of the finest knives made on the planet.  This is a carbon steel with a stacked leather handle.  Him said "Let's get a pic of this before the steel acquires its patina.  Randall knife construction.  "The only thing that would make this shot better" our buddy said, "would be if it had a revolver in it."  Him thinks there is still a bit too much reflection on the blade but not bad for a quick shot.

So It's Come to This ....

This appears to be Ikea's most recent offering in the works...a disposable digital camera and will store up to 40 pictures maximum.  No details yet on whether some assembly required or not.

Chip 'Em Cheap

On May 6th, the Wichita Kennel Club is offering canine micro chipping for a very reasonable fee ($20-$25 depending if you pre-register).  Read the details here.  Him took me out there last year and even though I don't like needles I did not even know anything happened.  Me brave.

Its all in the design -or- What goes around Comes Around

Purportedly, a city councilman in Utah, had a beautiful view of the east mountains, until a new neighbor purchased the lot below his house and built a new home.  The new home was 18" higher than the ordinances allowed, so the man with less of a view, mad about his lost view, went to the city to enforce the building codes.

Then new neighbor had to drop the roof line - at great expense.

But that was not where the story ended.  The vindicated man who regained some of his view back, called the city and informed them that his new neighbor had installed some venting on the side of his house and he did not like the look of the new vents and asked for further investigation.  When the went to inspect the situation and  see what the complaint was, this is what they found.  

The city council said the new vents could stay since there was no ordinance limiting shutter design.

Just down the street from the store 1 block is one of Wichita's most popular location to spot photographers of all skill levels taking pictures.  Him and me like to take photos of photographer's exercising their craft.

But I had a ticket!

Friday night I got left behind even though there was a ticket for me.  Him and his buddies rode out to 81 Speedway to watch a little flat track racing.

Him got a new old pocket watch here a couple weeks ago.  So far so good...even if Him forgets to wind it.

Sunday About Town

 Sunday was a beautiful day and after Him got back home from helping a friend mop out his home and studio from yesterday's storms we went for a nice long bike ride.  The first picture is me waiting on him to get a photo of the Allen Lamb House designed by the noted architect Frank Lloyd Wright built on the corner of 2nd Street and Roosevelt.  I'll post a few more pics from our ride later.

1970's Muscle

 AMC Javelin.  Him loved these cars as a kid and thought they were super cool.  We have seen this one for the past couple of days parked out on the street and last night a couple guys had the hood popped on it with a tool box nearby.  There is an old Kansas tag on it where the county designation is indicated by a two letter code one letter above the other.

Mobile Beauty

Easter was today and after hanging out in the garage and working on Ryan's bike and eating a fine meal of roast beast, potatoes and carrots with some homemade biscuits we took a ride down to OJ Watson Park and saw this gem.

Photoshop is an amazing tool.  I wonder what future generations will think when looking back on all of our beautiful people that we must be?

Yesterday was Easter and although there were no Easter peeps or chocolate bunnies there was plenty of carbs... in this case a set of four from a 1971 Honda CB 500 Four.

Vespa Kool

 Saw this sweet vintage Vespa (yes it had an antique tag) on my Sunday morning walk about.  I think this would be a fun scooter to have. It appeared to be in excellent condition and well loved.  Riverside is full of fun bikes of all varieties and the main reason I love living in such a diverse neighborhood.

Blokes from a faraway land

These two gents from a far away land stopped us as we were getting ready to meets some friends for a beverage last weekend.  They were amazed that I rode a motorcycle.  They were nice blokes.

Check out the above link to read a story from the Wichita Eagle about a local collector that has a nice assortment of early Harley Davidson Motorcycles.  The story caught my attention because of the Hudson truck shown in the background of this photo.
